Yorkshire Terrier

Breed Character Summary
The Yorkie was bred as a ratter, used to kill mice and rats in tight, cramped places around the 1850s
The breed first appeared at an 1861 dog show in England as the Broken-Haired Scotch Terrier
The breed standard dictates that a Yorkshire Terrier must weigh no more than seven pounds and must always be Steel Blue and Tan in colour
The Yorkshire Terrier, though a toy breed, still retains much of its terrier
ancestry in terms of personality.
Though temperaments obviously differ from each
individual dog to dog, they are generally regarded as intelligent, independent
and feisty by nature
